Our commitment to those in need

In today’s society, with the cost of living crisis, conflict and human displacement it is even more important to help those in need.

Our community of Sacred Heart answers this call.

As a community we support three main causes a year.

We donate food at Harvest to the local Hope food bank and Emmanuel House. Some of our pupils visit the food bank to see where their donations go and learn how it is organised.

We support Cafod during the Lent term. We have completed walks for water as a school community and taken part in the big share.

In the Pentecost term, our pupils decide on a charity, local or global that they wish to support. We find this gives them a sense of ownership, responsibly and creativity to help others.

We get asked as a school to support many other causes, throughout the year. If we can help, we do.  The community response to the Ukraine appeal filled three low loader lorries in May 2021.

We created 50 shoe boxes for the children of Ukraine and Romania filled with Christmas gifts and practical items who otherwise would have nothing to open on Christmas Day.  We are also supporting bags of blessings this Advent period.

Our staff also have a deep commitment to our families who are in need. Every Christmas staff provide hampers of food, Christmas jumpers, a book and seasonal activities to families we know need that helping hand. Our staff also support families who lose a loved one, a parent or a sibling through activity packs for the family to create new happy memories. We believe that every little act of kindness helps.

We are proud that our Trust also have now created a fund to help families in financial difficulty.

We are able to provide food vouchers to two local food banks, Hope and Holy Family Parish food back at Our Lady St Edwards church.

We actively identify approach families and welcome families in our community who approach us for help.
