Curriculum

“Words are powerful; they can create worlds, inspire change, and give voice to our thoughts.”

Malala Yousafzai

English is at the heart of everything we do in school. Through a love of reading, children are introduced to new worlds, ideas, and vocabulary that spark imagination and curiosity. We place great importance on oracy, helping pupils develop confidence in speaking and listening so they can share their thoughts clearly and respectfully. Writing is encouraged as a creative and purposeful skill, allowing children to express themselves, tell stories, and communicate their ideas with pride. Together, these skills build strong foundations for learning, confidence, and success across the curriculum and beyond.

Religious Education at Sacred Heart School

Religious Education is an important part of life at Sacred Heart Catholic school.  It helps our children understand who they are, what they believe, and how they can live a fruitful life with others. Through RE, our children learn about God, Jesus, and the teachings of the Catholic Church, and how faith connects to everyday life. They are encouraged to think deeply, ask questions, and express their ideas with confidence. RE also helps our children develop strong moral values, understand other religions and worldviews, and engage respectfully with people who are different from them, supporting their personal growth and preparation for life in today’s world.

The Religious Education Directory underpins teaching and learning in our school. It guides the RE curriculum by outlining what pupils should know, understand and experience as they grow in faith. Rooted in Scripture, Tradition and Church teaching, it supports a clear and progressive approach, helping pupils develop their understanding of the Catholic faith and live out Gospel values in their daily lives.

In the Religious Education Directory, the curriculum is divided into different ‘branches’ that show the key areas of learning.  We use Nottingham Diocesan planning to support our school’s intent and implementation of RE.
