Curriculum Intent

We are currently developing this exciting area of our curriculum, please call the school if you require any more information.

“Teach me knowledge and good judgment”

Psalm 119:66

At Sacred Heart, we are proud of ‘Our Curriculum’ which incorporates the lessons that Jesus taught us. Every half term has an overarching theme for all year groups.

These are:

  • ‘Our Lives’
  • Our World’
  • ‘Our Past’
  • ‘Our Community’
  • ‘Our Global Community’
  • ‘Our Futures’.

We are developing a ‘powerful knowledge’-based curriculum which promotes good habits for learning, high standards and high achievements for all our children. The curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum 2014 and other experiences and opportunities which best meet the learning and developmental needs of the pupils in our school and our community.

Our curriculum has been designed to encompass knowledge and understanding of the world in which we live, and also the events that have shaped it in the past to make it what it is today. The units of learning have been crafted to complement and build on one another with clear progression for each subject and links so that in subsequent year groups, children will be able to explore concepts deeper, applying their knowledge in different contexts.

We aim for every child to see themselves in our curriculum learning about influencers from every walk of life. We are a school who strives for our pupils to ‘know and remember more’ to achieve greatness in a fully inclusive atmosphere.  We believe that all children can achieve better than their best, whatever their starting points or needs.
